I am a Research Funding Specialist at the University of Edinburgh Research Office. In this role I provide pre-award support for funding applications for UK-based funders; Checking funding applications meet funder requirements, and that they are costed in line with the University of Edinburgh’s policies; Arranging due diligence on funders or partners; Processing awards and setting up research contracts for collaborations. I am part of the Central (UK) Research Funding Team and support the School of Biological Sciences, Business School, Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, and the School of GeoSciences.
In 2024, I successfully defended my PhD thesis, ‘Do choirs have accents? A sociophonetic investigation of choral sound’. My research continues to probe the questions of why people sing the way they do in classical contexts, and when singing with others. You can read more about my research here.
I have over five years experience teaching undergraduate linguistics in the UK context, from introductory first and second year undergraduate courses to third and fourth year courses in phonetics. I have also taught at master’s level and has experience taking seminars, lecturing, assisting with supervision, marking, moderating, and leading a course.
I am a keen choral singer having sung with the University of Glasgow Chapel Choir since 2014, and as a founder member of iuchair, the Glasgow-based early music ensemble, since 2018. Learn more about my singing experience here.
